The 16 members of the Small Historic Towns are towns with town charter and have no more than 45,000 inhabitants. They boast historic and harmonious townscapes, are embedded within special natural landscapes and home to numerous heritage-protected sights.

Certified guides transform the history with interesting stories and provide insight into local life. Handicrafts workshops in which artisans demonstrate their crafts, weekly farmers’ markets, delicious cuisine and individual shopping opportunities are additional attractions. In the local gastronomy, it is easy to get into conversation with the population and enjoy the joie de vivre as a temporary local.
