A WARM WELCOME to the Traunsee-Almtal holiday region and the Small Historic Town of Gmunden! Enjoy a virtual tour through our town well-known for its beautiful handcrafted ceramics, located on the shores of the crystal clear Traunsee Lake where the gently rolling alpine foothills make way for the magnificent mountains of the Northern Kalkalpen Alps. With its depth of 191 m, the Traunsee Lake – 12.2 km long and 2.9 km wide – is Austria’s deepest lake.
The mighty Traunstein Mountain whose rock faces prominently rise sharply up 1,200 metres from the Traunsee Lake is not only the Traunsee region’s landmark but is also known as the ‘guardian’ of the entire Salzkammergut Lake District. And right in the middle of this imposing scenery lies the majestically picturesque town of Gmunden.
A town with lots of charm and contrasts, a place for both moments of exhilaration as well as peace and quiet to think and pause or simply to sit back and relax!
For nature lovers: take the cable car up the Grünberg Mountain (treetop walkway with a 75 m long slide, summer toboggan run, low ropes course, Grünbergalm Inn).
