Capital of Culture 2024
The year 2024 was entirely dedicated to the 2024 Capital of Culture. Art and cultural initiatives were brought to life at numerous venues across the Salzkammergut. Through its four programme strands – ‘Power and Tradition’, ‘Culture in Flux’, ‘Sharing Salzkammergut – The Art of Travelling’ and ‘Globalokal – Building The New’ – the programme addressed key themes relating to our region, Europe and the world, provided fresh impetus, showcased the diversity of both historically rooted and contemporary art and culture, and connected the region with the wider international community.
By being awarded the title of ‘European Capital of Culture 2024’ with the motto ‘Culture is the new salt’, the Salzkammergut region – with Bad Ischl as its candidate town – has developed into a cultural region that stands for innovation, courage and the desire to reshape its own future.
