Out & About in the Great Outdoors
Bad Radkersburg

On the Move

The wetlands along the Mur River around Bad Radkersburg are characteristic of our region’s natural paradise. In the immediate vicinity of the old town a recreational area boasting a rich diversity of animals and plants awaits to be explored. The Mur wetlands extending over approx. 3,000 ha are Austria’s second largest unspoilt wetlands. Since 2019 the “Unteres Tal” Mur wetlands are part of the world’s first 5-country biosphere park.

Numerous bike routs and hiking trails lead across the Mur wetlands in the biosphere park or pass over gently rolling vineyards.

Unlimited Cycling Pleasure in Our “RADregion”

The Bad Radkersburg Region is best explored on 2 wheels – whether propelled along by tailwind or by your sheer physical stamina, kilometre-long cycle paths for pleasure cyclists, families, E-bikers, road bikers and mountain bikers await to be conquered!

Bike past the Klöch and Tieschen vineyards, through the Mur wetlands in the biosphere park around Bad Radkersburg, Halbenrain and Mureck or across the border into Slovenia. The season starts with the first warm sun rays in April and doesn’t end, thanks to our mild autumn temperatures, before October. Breathe the tangy smell of wood garlic permeating the air in the Mur wetlands in springtime. Follow cycle paths passing through shady wetlands in the summer and, in the evening, enjoy the vibrant pub scene full of southern flair in the romantic alleyways of the old town. The Southern Styrian autumn offers magnificent panoramic views of gently rolling hills awash with colour. Especially autumn is the ideal time to taste our delicious wines and regional delicacies made from pumpkins, butterbeans and horseradish when stopping at a wine tavern along your cycling route through our beautifully varied landscapes. And after cycling fancy a thermal bath at the Park spa? Just hop off your bike and dive into its mineral-rich thermal water!
