The Salzburg Festival in Hallein

No summer without the festival. The Salzburg Festival is as much a part of Salzburg as the mountains, Mozart and the castle are. Founded by Hugo von Hoffmannsthal on the 22nd of August 1920, the festival is now applauded worldwide for its high-quality operas, theatres and concerts and has become a cultural highlight of great significance. On unique Salzburg stages, such as the “Große Festspielhaus” or the “Felsenreitschule”, international stars and spectacular productions astound the audience year and again. Another very special stage is in Hallein’s centre on the Pernerinsel Island. Feel the special festival magic in the “Alte Sudhaus” historic saline building, where salt from the Dürrnberg salt mines was processed until 1989.
