On offer, for example, is central Europe's largest casino, the modern Roman Thermal Spa and the famous operetta theatre. Embedded in a historic vineyard landscape, the bridge between tradition and the modern is achieved. Peace and entertainment need not be contradictory. Lifestyle in Baden bei Wien – feeling on top and at your ease!
TOWNHISTORY
First mentioned in 869 as »Padun«, Baden was given town status by Emperor Friedrich III. Vineyards and spa baths are the most important pillars of the economy. The Turkish invasion and extensive fires destroyed the heart of the town, which was to be rebuilt completely in the Biederamier period. Architecture, art and garden cultivation blossomed to a high level at this time. Such architects as Carl von Moreau, Josef Kornhäusel and Otto Wagner left their marks through noble town houses, palaces or beautiful squares. The imperial court moved its summer residence to Baden in the years 1803-1834, as did illustrious spa guests and artists. At the time of the Vienna Congress the spa town counted among the most important locations in Europe, and was the most important spa resort in Austria between the wars.
