Radstadt

The medieval town receives its guests in the heart of the Radstadt Tauern, on the sunny terrace of the Enns Valley. Lanes, squares, buildings - we find witnesses everywhere of a mature culture. Hospitality and traditions are cultivated by the local people, and guests are included. Together with traditional festivities, such as the Dumpling and Guard festivals, classical or modern listening pleasures are also an attraction. Between the town’s powers of attraction and the tranquillity of surrounding nature, a world of good is done for the soul, for those seeking recuperation and family holidaymakers.
.
TOWNHISTORY

»Rastat« was first mentioned in documents in 1074. Due to its strategi cally important location on the old Roman road from Aquileia over the Radstadt Tauern to Juvavum (Salzburg), Radstadt received town rights under Archbishop Rudolf von Hohenegg in 1289 and many privileges and much freedom. At the time of The Peasant Wars, the town under Michl Gaismair (1525–26) held out against siege by 5,000 peasants, and in 1527 received the great »Letter of Freedom« from Archbishop Matthäus Lang. Due to a decree of emigration, over 3,000 Protestants were obliged to leave the Radstadt district in 1731/32. After numerous occupations by Austrian, Bavarian and French troops, the town became an Austrian crown land with the Salzburg archbishopric in 1861.
SURROUNDINGS

Surrounded by jagged chains of cliffs, wonderful 2,000m peaks for hiking and luxuriant alpine meadows enchant visitors to the medieval town. In the heart of Austria, the sunny holiday paradise offers a great many excursion destinations: the Liechtenstein Gorge (25km), Dachstein Glacier (35km), Giant Ice Caves (30km), Jäger Lake (25km), Salzburg (70km), Gross glockner (80km). Those who climb the just 1,800m »Roßbrand« – Radstadt’s local mountain – on foot or by car (12km), have a far-reaching view over 150 Alpine peaks. One enjoys solid local fare at the rustic alpine-meadow huts. Whether cycling, horseback riding, swimming, golf (9 and 18 holes with golf cable railway), tennis or hiking, Radstadt has the appropriate answer to every sporting penchant. 850km of fabulous ski runs await guests in winter, as well as 270 most modern lift facilities in the Amadé ski region.
.
CITY & GOLF

Friends of the green grass sport will find a sensation awaiting them in the “old town in the mountains”: the only “Birdie-Jet” golf cable car in the world from the 11th green to the 12th tee. For sheer elation and even more drive, try the 13th tee at 996 metres: take a deep breath and enjoy the view over the entire course with its pond and island green, surrounded by the impressive mountain summits. The 9-hole course will awaken your desire to try golf, while the ambitious 18-hole course offers a real challenge for pro golfers and is regularly played by well known major sporting names.
