Leisurely cycling in the romantic water meadow landscape and idyllic vineyards with cycle maps or GPS.
TOWNHISTORY
Lively settlement since the New Stone Age, first written record in 1182 and has been a town since 1299. Major fortress against Hungary, and a major trading centre due to its favourable location on trading routes. Blossomed economically as a result of numerous privileges, such as the “right of entrepot” or the “preemptive wine selling rights”. As the Ottoman threat grew stronger, in the 16th century the fortification was strengthened under master builders from Upper Italy. After the collapse of the monarchy the boundaries were re drawn and Bad Radkersburg lost more than 50% of its municipal area. Economic upturn through the use of the mineral and thermal springs since 1970.
