The wine route leads you over a period of three to four days through one of the most enchanting areas of eastern Austria’s delightful flatland, interchanging with typical vineyards in the Styrian hill country and alpine regions.
Day 1: Arrival in Baden – perhaps you will visit the largest casino in Europe in the evening, to try your luck and feel the electrifying atmosphere. Overnight stay.
Day 2: The charm of old Biedermeier Baden will delight you on a stroll around this spa and congress town. A visit to one of the coffee houses is not to be missed, where one meets the people of Baden and Vienna as they read newspapers or indulge in a little chat. Numerous antique shops, and others, invite one to indulge in a shopping spree or to simply look and discover. The Spa Park and the Baden Rosarium, with over 20,000 roses, are recommended to flower lovers for a visit. If you yearn for a little relaxation, visit the Roman thermal spa or the thermal bathing beach with Austria’s most extensive sand beach in summer. After a short ride further you reach Rust on Lake Neusiedl. The town with its old town houses and its very special ”Pannonian“ atmosphere is enchanting. In the immediate vicinity is the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkl National Park, a paradise for birds that is unique in Europe. Again back in the town, take a comfortable seat at one of the numerous wine taverns found within romantic inner courtyards.
Day 3: After a good breakfast there’s a visit to the Austrian Wine Academy in idyllic Seehof, and sample one or other of the excellent wines at the vinotheque. You then drive through the cultivated vineyards towards Bad Radkersburg. After viewing the Gothic and Baroque buildings there you recuperate in a shady guest garden and enjoy regional cuisine. In the late afternoon you can visit one of the famous vintners, purchase wine, Styrian pumpkin-seed oil and pumpkin seeds and enjoy the evening with some of the many cultural offers at Bad Radkersburg.
Day 4: You drive on to Judenburg in the morning. The Mediterranean charm from the time of the Venetian traders is still to be felt today in the Old Town. Perhaps you will investigate the town’s history at the Town Museum, visit the impressive town tower with its majestic view over the surrounding landscape. A bicycle excursion in the near vicinity – ancient Styrian taverns will indulge you en route with traditional specialities and pastries – is also another alternative offered.
