The travel route again leads you over a period of three to four days through differing landscapes – from the foothills of the Alps into the Salzkammergut with its marvellous lakes – with buildings of great architectural significance and art treasures.
Day 1: Arrival in Schärding. Dinner at one of the traditional inns. Overnight stay.
Day 2: The Upper Town Square with its colourful Baroque facades invites one to a tour. Numerous towers, the fortifications, the beautiful location on the River Inn enchant the visitor. A boat ride on the Inn, the visit to the Town Museum or an exhibition of great quality, and a brewery tour with a concluding tasting and white-sausage snack at the brewery parlour quickly fills the morning. In the afternoon you will drive to the Roman city of Wels. You are again on an historic town square. Hearty Upper Austrian fare and a glass of cider enhance the evening. Overnight stay in Wels.
Day 3: After a short trip you will reach Steyr, the romantic town. The unique radiation of the historic city centre will move the feelings of the spectator. You pass slowly through the streets and feel the extraordinary atmosphere. Here an excursion guided by a walkman is worth the effort. In an entertaining way it shows Austria's most beautiful rococo town hall, the 500 year old Bummerlhaus, Lamberg castle, etc. In the afternoon you will visit Enns, Austria's oldest town. The basilica, parish church and museum will help you discover the history of the medieval town. Climb the 60m high city tower – the gorgeous view is rewarding… After a romantic dinner you will spend the night in Enns.
Day 4: The drive continues into the Salzkammergut. Stroll through Gmunden and visit the world-famous Gmunden ceramics workshop. Proceed to the romantic Orth castle and visit the location of the famous film scenes. After a coffee break you will continue your ride to Bad Ischl. The old imperial residence invites one to a stroll through the town centre. Visit the Emperor's Villa and subsequently enjoy a spa concert in the Spa Park.
Architecture from the imperial period allows one to think back with fascination to times gone by.
