The three to four-day travel route leads along enchanting roads through the mountain ranges of the Radstadt Tauern and into the broad Carinthian basin, through the Lienz Dolomites to the Zell Lake. The most differing landscapes with diverse cultures and the most diverse inhabitants.
Day 1: Arrival in Radstadt. In good weather one enjoys the sunset over the Radstadt Tauern, Lackenkogel and Grießenkareck on a stroll around the town walls in the evening. There then follows a cosy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Lerchen Castle and the Capuchin Tower with the Radstadt Museum of Local History, the Cobbler’s Tower, the 13th century town fortifications with defences and watchtowers relate old stories. Perhaps you will »climb« (also by car) the »Roßbrand«, Radstadt’s local mountain with a view over 150 peaks in the Alps and indulge yourself with a hearty snack at the Radstadt Hut. After lunch you will drive to the south of Austria. The town of comedians, Spittal an der Drau, enthuses with its southern lifestyle. The sumptuous Renaissance Porcia Palace invites one as equally to a visit as the lively Old Town. Historic gems such as the Petzlbräu, or the »Painted Tree« with its pictorial history of Spittal, are contemporary witnesses to the development of the town. Traditional inns invite you for dinner, and perhaps you will join in the night life and spend the night here.
Day 3: After breakfast you will drive to the Dolomite town of Lienz. Here, too, you will encounter the southern joy of life, which is seen in the enchantingly beautiful buildings of the Old Town. Discover Bruck Castle, the residence of the Görz Counts, or study the eating habits of the period around the 15th century in the »The Travel Diary of Paolo Santonino« and try them out immediately at the surrounding inns. An excursion in the near vicinity by bicycle or a short hike into the surrounding mountains of the Hohe Tauern National Park, concludes the day. Overnight stay in the Dolomite town.
Day 4: You set off early to Zell am See, because the snow is already glowing in the early morning on the glaciers, and the lake glistens in the sunlight. View Prielau Palace and Rosenberg Palace. A stroll through the town centre with its town houses and towers, and then lunch with »Pinzgau« specialities, offer a marvellous conclusion to your little tour.
