»High Mountains - Old Towns«

A great deal of history has taken place in western Austria. This is witnessed by the medieval buildings, which appear charmingly attractive even in mountainous areas. On our three to four-day travel route you will meet a completely different type of people than those in the east – rough but hearty and especially hospitable.
.
Day 1: Arrival in Feldkirch. You stroll through the Old Town, light regional cuisine awaits you at dinner. Overnight stay.

Day 2: You take part in a morning tour of the medieval town of the Counts of Montfort. After a coffee break you will perhaps visit Göfis, Feldkirch’s sunny village. You pass here the »Gasserplatz« – named after Austria’s last person executed at the gallows site. Enjoy the famous »Kasspätzle« (cheese dumplings) and then drive over the enchanting Arlberg Pass to Tyrol’s sunny town of Imst. Several churches and interesting museums – the Shrovetide Carnival Museum, for example, mediates in a way appropriate to the period unique impressions of the Imst »Schemenlaufen« and the Imst »Buabefasnacht«. You will spend the night in Imst.

Day 3: Today you drive to Hall/Tyrol, the former coin-minting centre of the Hapsburgs. You can purchase regional produce at the Farmers’ Market, such as honey, bacon, fresh farmhouse bread and hearty cheese, and the surrounding stores invite one to window shop. For a reminiscent souvenir you can mint your own memorial coin at the »Alte Münze«. A tour of the Town Hall with its beams from the year 1451 is as equally recommended as the Museum of Salt Mining – a reproduction of the Hall Valley mine, which was closed down in 1967. The second travel route on this day will lead you to the fortified town of Kufstein – »the pearl of Tyrol«. With its magnificent location on the River Inn, you will enjoy a wonderful afternoon in the historic city centre with numerous exhibitions and attractions. As a highlight, you will visit the massive fortifications, which in earlier times were an important and strategic point of defence. A glass encased oblique lift brings you directly up from the town centre to the fortress. From here above the town you can enjoy an overwhelming view in good weather. A special kind of experience is also a visit to the »Tyrolean display hut«, the glass blowing display workshop and audiovisual SINNphonie museum of the Riedel company. You end the day properly with a typical »Tyrolean evening«. You will spend the night in Kufstein.
